Onyeka Okongwu Agrees To $62M Extension

The Atlanta Hawks have secured their center for the foreseeable future with a fat contract. Onyeka Okongwu was the final player from the 2020 draft to receive an extension before Monday’s 6 P.M. ET deadline.

Some found it interesting that Atlanta did not reach a rookie contract extension with former Detroit Piston Saddiq Bey, but did with Okongwu. Either way, Okongwu found success in Quin Snyder’s system and has been known as an excellent offensive rebounder and being able to get second-chance points.

The deal in question is for four years worth $62 million. There is no option attached to this deal.

Last season, Okongwu averaged 9.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He played a career-best 80 games.
