Stan Van Gundy has been fired by the Pelicans!

Stan Van Gundy has been fired by the Pelicans! After one disastrous season with the Pelicans the nightmare is finally over as Van Gundy is fired. The reports have been ongoing about whether or not the Pelicans were going to keep him; or at the very least saying if his job security was still in-tact.

Many reports came out that Brandon Ingram, Eric Bledsoe, and many more players were not happy with Van Gundy. The most shocking report was when players were admitting to Van Gundy not listening in the huddle and pretty much doing his own thing. Plus, Bledsoe called him ‘ok.’ So much for that failed experiment, worst head coach in the free world.

Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations, David Griffin, and Van Gundy have been in talks for the past few weeks. As today they made the call to call it quits and join the handful of teams hoping to find a new head coach. Van Gundy joins the former coach of the Pacers as the only two this season to get the boot after one season. Rough, but what did they have going for themselves? One has anger issues and one has no clue of what he is doing.

Here is what the team said in a statement:

“On behalf of Mrs. Gayle Benson and the Pelicans organization, I would like to thank Stan for the integrity and professionalism that he demonstrated during his time in New Orleans, as well as the commitment and work ethic he brought to our team,” Griffin said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision as I have tremendous respect for Stan both personally and professionally, but we agreed it is in the best interest of our team to move forward in a different direction. We wish Stan, Kim and their family all the best in the future.”

The Pelicans will be looking at their assistant head coach and many other assistants to see if they would like to make a run for one of them to become their new HC. Interesting? Yes and many more names are soon to be popping up everywhere for this position.
