Pelicans player Zion Williamson will have the chance to lose money due to weight penalties. Despite the quick signing and new money, the Pelicans have a backup plan in case all goes to heck in a handbasket.

Williamson signed a huge contract but has some provisions, which was bound to happen. If he goes over 295 pounds, combining weight and body fat, then he will begin to lose some of his guaranteed money. He will be doing periodic weigh-ins throughout the entirety of his new deal.

The 22-year-old will be held accountable for his weight as that has been a growing concern for the organization since his recent injuries and time away from the team. He has gone over 310 pounds recently, but the Pelicans are now hopeful he can slim back down. That should be a guarantee if he doesn’t want to lose out on any money.
