According to multiple reports, the Boston Celtics have waived Lonnie Walker. He signed an Exhibit 10 contract earlier in the offseason.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla loved the work Walker showed the team during training camp and the preseason; however, if Boston were to sign him to their roster for the season, it would have cost them $11 million in salary. That would have been before the tax penalties.

President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens told the 25-year-old how difficult it would have been to make the team due to money and depth. Even with all that, Walker still opted to sign with them and show them his skills.

With the type of contract he has signed, if Walker doesn’t find another team to sign with, he can play for the Maine Celtics of the G League.

In 322 career games, Walker averaged 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 20.3 minutes.

According to multiple reports, led by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics are adding Lonnie Walker IV to their team.

The 25-year-old is signing a one-year deal as a prove-it deal to the league that he can ball and be a useful piece to a championship/playoff contending team.

In 58 games for the Brooklyn Nets, Walker averaged 9.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. His shooting splits were 42.3% from the field and 38.4% from behind the arc.

Many rumors and reports have emerged since the Grousbeck family publicly put the Boston Celtics up for sale. The biggest one was Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, wanting to purchase Boston’s franchise.

This rumor wasn’t totally out of the norm because Bezos was interested in the NFL’s Washington Commanders.
