Mavericks Interested In Klay Thompson

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Dallas Mavericks are interested in signing Klay Thompson to a multi-year deal.

Several teams are monitoring the situation involving the Golden State Warriors and the 34-year-old, as reports are suggesting the veteran guard is not returning to The Bay.

While he is eligible for a four-year, $223 million extension, Thompson is probably not getting that type of money. Before this season, Golden State offered him a two-year, $48 million extension. However, Thompson did not like that type of contract.

The newly signed Dallas Mavericks player will have the chance to play against his former team on November 12th.

Warriors Rejected Klay Thompson’s Two-Year, $40 Million Offer

According to multiple reports, Klay Thompson and his agent brought several contract proposals to the Golden State Warriors before the start of free agency. However, management wasn’t having it.

The latest offer was a two-year, $40 million deal. The Warriors shot down this very cheap, reasonable deal. This was after Thompson came to terms with having an Andre Igudola-type role at Golden State.

Golden State wanted him to come off the bench behind Brandin Podziemski, prompting the team to take a different financial approach. Mike Dunleavy Jr. sought names like Mikal Bridges, Lauri Markkanen, LeBron James, and Paul George.

About two weeks after the Warriors rejected his final offer on June 1st, Thompson decided that he needed to find himself with a different team and finish his journey somewhere else. This led to him signing with the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal.

Klay Thompson Signs $50 Million Deal With Mavericks

According to multiple reports, the Dallas Mavericks have come to an agreement with Klay Thompson for him to join the likes of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.

The deal is set for three years worth $50 million, including a player option. For reference on other offers coming across Thompson’s phone, the Los Angeles Lakers were prepared to offer him a four-year, $80 million deal.

While Dallas has agreed to a contract with Thompson, Golden State is still finalizing the terms of the sign-and-trade that would land the four-time champion in Dallas. It would also take the willingness of the Charlotte Hornets to get this deal done. For the Hornets, Josh Green was sent to them.

However, multiple insiders have noted that this deal should be completed soon, and the terms of this trade/agreement will be publicized.

Per Brett Siegel, Klay Thompson will be a member of the Dallas Mavericks no matter what.
