Rockets are interviewing Jeff Van Gundy for the HC job!
Rockets are interviewing Jeff Van Gundy for the HC job! A reunion happening between the two? Appears to be that way as the Rockets are interviewing Jeff Van Gundy for their head coaching position!
Jeff Van Gundy should be familiar with what the Rockets are looking for in a head coach, how? Because Gundy used to work for the team, he was a head coach for them for four years. Over those four years of coaching, he led the team to a winning percentage of .555.
Also, it doesn’t stop right there, the Rockets went to the playoffs three out of the four times. Now, he did have a playoff record of 7-12. After those four seasons, the Rockets had enough. They decided to cut ties with him and search for a new head coach. This led Gundy to work for ESPN in 2006-2007, which by then he was fired.
Jeff Van Gundy isn’t the only interviewee; the team has two other coaches ready for the job too!
Competition at it’s finest as Van Gundy won’t have a strolling reunion, if it happens. He will have to go through Ty Lue and John Lucas, who are also contenders for this position.
The Rockets interviewed Lue on Monday, but the thing is this. He has been getting buzz and being drawn to different areas. For example, the Clippers and Pelicans have had interest in him. The reason for all this interest? Is because he is a proven winner in Cleveland and he has shown great control over massive egos and making sure his team wins. There are more reasons, but that outlines it.
The Clippers could get before the Rockets because they have Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Patrick Beverly, and a good bench. That would be solid and it would be one of the hottest teams heading into next season, why? Because of their determination to make it back to the postseason, not get eliminated like they did this past postseason, and have PG13 and Kawhi have memorable careers in LA.
What’s the deal with John Lucas?
John Lucas, if you didn’t know, is the Rocket’s assistant head coach. He began to work with the team during the 2016-2017 season, Lucas has been in the NBA for more than four decades now. He has been a player in this league in the 80s and early 90s, then been bouncing and hanging around the league trying to be a coach.
Also, to mention, Lucas has a .401 winning percent as a head coach.
