Pacers have fired Nate McMillan!

Pacers have fired Nate McMillan!

Pacers have fired Nate McMillan! Just like Brett Brown getting fired after being swept in the playoffs; same happened to Nate McMillan. McMillan was reportedly fired by the Pacers because of being swept in the playoffs by the Heat.

Now, as this is interesting, the Pacers reworked his contract this past month. The Pacers reworked his final year with the Pacers for the 2020-2021 season, plus gave him a team option. This all came to a soft extension.

There’s something fierce on the radar!

There’s something fierce on the radar! Oh yes, you read that correctly. Because with Mike D’Antoni, who’s in the final year of his contract with the Rockets, will become available for the Pacers. Mike D’Antoni has been someone that the Pacers are reportedly seeking interest in, this was the only HC that they have announced publicly they wanted.

There’s no luck of the Irish for McMillan…

Even though in the four seasons he was the head coach for the Pacers and had a record of 183-136; that didn’t matter as such. Why? Because this is his second time in a row, back-to-back, that his team was swept in the first round of the playoffs.

First by the Celtics and then by the Heat, which is happening right now.

Plus, to make matters even worse, the Pacers haven’t reached the second round in the playoffs since 2014. Also, after Monday’s loss to the Miami Heat; this made a franchise-record of nine straight playoff game losses.

Someone thinks it was “ridiculous” for the Pacers to fire HC McMillan!

The team that swept McMillan’s team thought it was ridiculous to fire him. His name is Erik Spoelstra, head coach of the Miami Heat. Here’s the quote:

“It seems totally ridiculous. It seems like you’re talking out of both sides of your mouth. Just two weeks ago at the beginning of our series you’re giving him an extension, but really it’s just a media fake extension to appease whatever they felt like they needed to appease. And then after this series to make that quick of an emotional decision is really disappointing,” he said.

This is what the Pacers’ President had to say on the firing of McMillan:

“On behalf of the Simon family and the Pacers organization, I’d like to thank Nate for his years with the team,” Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard said in a statement. “This was a very hard decision for us to make; but we feel it’s in the best interest of the organization to move in a different direction. Nate and I have been through the good times and the bad times; and it was an honor to work with him for those 11 years (in Indiana and Portland).”

Nate Bjorkgren fired as Pacer’s head coach!

Nate Bjorkgren fired as Pacer’s head coach!

Nate Bjorkgren fired as Pacer’s head coach! The Pacers have relieved him of his duties of coaching as the team met with him today to discuss the direction they wanted to go; after one year of Bjorkgren being HC, they part ways. Bjorkgren wasn’t even a year into his three-year contract and it was a disastrous season to say the least.

Let’s break it down. It is not that complicated, actually, as the veteran team and Nate Bjorkgren did not get along very well. Why? Because he did not get along well with a lot of the players on the team and he was not mentally prepared for the challenge. Meaning, his anger issues got in the way. The two factors that played into that was anger and disconnection, truly. That was a destructive year as they missed the playoffs, ultimately ending their streak.

With Bjorkgren out as HC, that leaves him with a bunch of other guys in the mix. Such as Jason Kidd, Lloyd Pierce, Mike D’Antoni (assistant HC for Nets), Scott Brooks, Stott, and even more assistant head coaches and regular head coaches ready to join a team.

“Out with the old and in with the new” holds true for the TimberWolves!

"Out with the old and in with the new" holds true for the TimberWolves!

“Out with the old and in with the new” holds true for the TimberWolves!

“Out with the old and in with the new” holds true for the TimberWolves! Head coaching changes are happening, it has happened. Most notably last night when the Timberwolves lost to the Knicks. However, it was much worse. How? The team then dropped to a record of 7-24, which is the worst record in the NBA currently.

Not a good sign, and that was the final straw from management and from ownership. So, “Out with the old and in with the new” is seemingly correct. Is it not?

Ryan Saunders, son of Flip Saunders, was fired after spending seven years with the team. Five as their assistant and two as their head coach. His replacement? His replacement is the Raptor’s own, now former, assistant HC, Chris Finch.

Why Finch?

Finch has a history with the Timberwolves, surprisingly. The Timberwolves back in 2019, when in need of an HC, interviewed him. That is until they went with their own assistant HC, Saunders.

Finch won the G-League title back in 2010 but then went on to pursue a bigger career in the NBA. He was an assistant head coach for the Raptors, Nuggets, Pelicans, and now the HC with the Timberwolves.

He is expected to coach with Saunders’ staff heading into Tuesday’s game against the Bucks.

Here is what Finch released about the opportunity he has been granted:

“I would like to thank [owner] Glen Taylor and Gersson Rosas for this incredible opportunity to be the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves,” Finch said in the statement. “I look forward to working hand and hand with Gersson to build and lead a team that Timberwolves fans will be proud of. We have excellent pieces in place and I can’t wait to get to work.” (ESPN)

Rosas talks on Finch, the same guy who told Saunders he was fired.

“Chris brings a wealth of basketball experience from his time in the NBA, G League, and Internationally. He is one of the most creative basketball minds in the NBA, has success maximizing players, and I am excited to see him bring our team to the next level and beyond,” (ESPN) Rosas said in a statement announcing Finch’s hiring.

Clippers

Doc Rivers and Clippers split ways!

Doc Rivers and 76ers connect up for a contract!

Doc Rivers and Clippers split ways!

Doc Rivers and Clippers split ways! Reports have been coming out that both sides have parted ways. It was a “mutual decision” for both sides to come forth and say no more.

The main reason for this departure would be the disappointing season they had this year because expectations were high. They made it to the Semi-Round of the Conference Finals when they lost the 3-1 lead over the Nuggets. That is when rumors were sinking in that the Clippers would be different because things seemed different.

Everyone was predicting a showdown of the Lakers-Clippers in the Conference Finals, but that didn’t go well. The Clippers had Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Patrick Beverley (for fun). They thought this was a super-team for this year, they had high hopes especially with the coaching of Doc Rivers.

Those were the main problems and concerns heading into this “mutual decision” to split. This is what Clipper’s Chairman, Steve Ballmer, had to say about Doc Rivers leaving the team.

“Doc has been a terrific coach for the Clippers, an incredible ambassador, and a pillar of strength during tumultuous times,” Ballmer said in a statement Monday. “He won a heck of a lot of games and laid a foundation for this franchise.”

“I am immeasurably grateful to Doc for his commitment and contributions to the Clippers and the city of Los Angeles,” Ballmer said. “I am also extremely confident in our front office and our players. We will find the right coach to lead us forward and help us reach our ultimate goals. We will begin the search and interview process immediately.”

This is what Doc Rivers had to say about his departure from the team:

“Thank you Clipper Nation for allowing me to be your coach and for all your support in helping make this a winning franchise,” Rivers said in a statement posted to Twitter. “When I took this job, my goals were to make this a winning basketball program, a free agent destination, and bring a championship to this organization.”

“While I was able to accomplish most of my goals, I won’t be able to see them all through. Though it was a disappointing ending to our season, you are right there and I know what this team is capable of accomplishing with your support.”

“Thank you to all the players, coaches, and staff for helping us get here. Most importantly, thank you to the fans. We went through a lot, and I am grateful for my time here.”

Also, to add some more details, he had two years left on his contract. His contract was set to expire through the 2022 season.

Doc Rivers have made history…. but for the wrong reasons!

Doc Rivers is the only head coach in NBA history to have a 3-1 lead still lose… in three series. He did so with the Clippers in 2020 against the Nuggets and with the Clippers in 2015 against the Rockets. Plus, in his early coaching years, with the Magic back in 2003 against the Pistons in the First Round.

His stats with the Clippers:

He went a 356-208 record with the Clippers in five seasons. Rivers has won 63% of games, which is the fifth-best record in head coaching history. Now, this is the kicker, he is 3-8 with the Clippers on clinching-playoff games. This means that when it comes down to series-winning games, they are the worst team in NBA history to do this. Rivers is tied to do this with one team.
