The Nets have hired HOF Steve Nash as their next HC!

The Nets have hired HOF Steve Nash as their next HC! It was being reported yesterday morning, that the Nets have signed Steve Nash to a four-year contract.

The Nets have been trying to pursue Nash as a head coach for some time now, Tsai (owner) and Marks (GM) made that abundantly clear.

After meeting with a number of highly accomplished coaching candidates from diverse backgrounds, we knew we had a difficult decision to make.” Marks said in a news release. “In Steve, we see a leader, communicator, and mentor who will garner the respect of our players. I have had the privilege to know Steve for many years. One of the great on-court leaders in our game, I have witnessed firsthand his basketball acumen and selfless approach to prioritize team success. His instincts for the game, combined with an inherent ability to communicate with and unite players towards a common goal, will prepare us to compete at the highest levels of the league.”

Does coaching experience matter for Nash?

Nash is in an interesting spot, how? Well, he has no head coaching experience. Never was an interim head coach, full-time head coach, and possibility never an assistant head coach. Good news though, he shares a great bond with Kevin Durant (during his time with Golden State) and shows some other good traits.

Good traits in what sense? Meaning, it didn’t matter what team or year he was in; he was always a team player, always helping teammates out, plus showing great leadership on the court.

To me, this is what the Nets need. Because he was one of the best shooters in his era, in his prime, in his playing days. He as a head coach can make him more relatable to shooters/scorers on the Nets. He will be able to make great advancements in making his players able to shoot the ball better, pass the ball better, plus having that great bondage of trust.

Especially when having Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on your team, he can make that duo mesh. He can build with the players he has on that team, he already has a great relationship with KD now he just needs to buid one up with Kyrie.

Imagine this, that Nash is able to turn around the Nets. Take them to the playoffs, potentially win a championship. Even though he is a head coach, he was once an NBA player. He knows what a good shooter needs and have to do. That’s key, why? Because he can share his own relatable knowledge to his players.

It’ll be more like talking player to player, instead of a head coach to player. That’s how chemistries build, friendships grow, trust is gained, and how winning teams are built.

This is what KD said about his relationship with Nash:

“He’s someone I can talk to about anything and somebody I really respect. His basketball mind is probably the best I’ve been around,” Durant told the San Jose Mercury News in 2018. “He tries to simplify the game and keep me conscious of those things as well. It’s simplifying and keeping it as easy for yourself. I’ve learned so much. So many people taught me how to play. He’s continued to teach me different things I can put in my game. I’m very grateful for him and happy for him.”

This is what Nash had to say on this incredible opportunity:

In a statement released by the Nets, Nash said: “I am honored to have this opportunity with such a first-class organization and would like to thank Sean, Joe and his wife, Clara, for having faith in my ability to lead this team forward. Coaching is something I knew I wanted to pursue when the time was right, and I am humbled to be able to work with the outstanding group of players and staff we have here in Brooklyn. I am as excited about the prospects of the team on the court as I am about moving to Brooklyn with my family and becoming impactful members of this community.”

Do you want to know a fun fact?

Sean Marks, current GM for Nets, was once a teammate for Nash with the Suns. They have been able to keep a great relationship in all these years apart, when not in the basketball court.

Tom Thibodeau has won the Coach Of The Year Award!

Tom Thibodeau has won the Coach Of The Year Award! The first-year head coach of the New York Knicks is making an impressive name for himself; even though having a career with the Chicago Bulls a decade ago, he is doing it again. Not only did he win this award but he took his team to the playoffs and out of all the teams in the world… it was the Knicks. So, huge congratulations as that is significant. The Knicks are finally relevant again, they have good/key players, and a great HC that knows what he is doing.

The results have been shared within the past 30 minutes and it was a close one as Thibs only beat out Phoenix Sun’s HC, Monty Williams, by 11 votes total. Even though Monty did win the first place votes and was two ahead of Thibs; however, 11 votes sealed the deal for Thibs allowing him to pick up his second COY Award!

NYC’s coach makes some EPIC history!

Yes, the Knicks are making history (and for the right side of history). As Thibodeau is the first head coach in NBA History to win two Coach Of The Year Awards in his first-year with two of the franchises he coached for. Obviously the Knicks, but his first coaching gig happened with the Chicago Bulls. When surprisingly Derrick Rose won MVP with Thibs; so it is ironic to have both of them on the same team for Thibs to win another award.

Also, this is the third Knick’s head coach to win this award. It was him, Pat Riley in ’93, and then Red Holzman in ’70.

Mark Daigneault is promoted HC by OKC!

Mark Daigneault is promoted HC by OKC! With the departure of former head coach Billy Donovan, they were on the search for a new coach. They have found one… right in their own organization.

Yep, you heard me correctly. As the Oklahoma City Thunder promoted their assistant head coach to be their full time head coach. This move does not come as such a shock due to the fact of his fast uprising in the G-Legaue. He was actually their G-League head coach for six years.

Daigneault did a pretty good job as their G-League coach; he led the team to a. 572 winning record, plus reaching to three-division titles.

Great optimism by Mark Daigneault:

“The opportunity to be the head coach of the Thunder is truly a special honor,” Daigneault said in a statement released by the team. “Over my six years in Oklahoma City, I’ve developed a deep commitment to the organization and care for what is truly a special community that I call home. From my first day here, my values have always been aligned with those of the organization, and I’m looking forward to helping them continue to be lived out on and off the court.”

Daigneault has so much support around the organization, which is very positive. A lot of reasons for the support would be for his connection with players, making long term and short term adjustments, and his overall coaching attitude.

This is what OKC’s President has to say about them hiring him:

“We are thrilled to have Mark assume the role of head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder,” Presti said in a statement. “He has been a selfless and effective leader within our organization since his arrival in 2014. Mark is a values-based leader, continuous learner, and someone that will help us continue the repositioning of our organization on and off the court.”

Donovan and OKC part ways after five seasons with the organization!

Donovan and OKC part ways after five seasons with the organization! Yesterday evening it was announced that the Thunder and former head coach, Billy Donovan, will be splitting ways.

This comes after his contract had expired after they lost in the postseason. Now, both sides had the option to talk about extensions; but sadly, both sides declined to have talked of an extension.

“We had planned to sit down at the end of the season and discuss the best way to move forward for both of us,” Thunder executive vice president and general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. “After those discussions, it became apparent that we couldn’t provide him the information on the future direction of the team over the next several seasons to give him the level of clarity that he understandably desires at this stage of his career. Therefore, we close this chapter and reflect fondly on all that he has given to the team, organization, and community. Billy will always have a place in the Thunder family.”

What did Billy Donovan (the HC) say in his statement to his departure with the organization?

This is what he prior to both splitting:

“This place will always be special to us. I will always hold this organization in the highest regard and wish the Thunder and their fans the success they deserve,” Donovan said in a statement.

What kind of teams is interested and what kind of teams have availability for their positions?

Currently, the Bulls are open to the decision of making Billy Donovan their next head coach. This comes with no shock as they fired their last head coach about a month ago.

Now, they are having first-round interviews with other head coaching candidates.

The teams that desperately need a new head coach would be the 76ers, Pelicans, and the Pacers. Those teams need a head coach after making some moves/changes this past month or so.

This will be interesting on how things play out for all the head coaching rumors and ideas that are going to be made very soon.

HEY! Before you get off the article, listen up.
