North Carolina upsets Baylor after WILD overtime

The unthinkable has been done, and that is the Tar Heels beating the Bears. The No. 8 team was able to beat the No. 1 team, which should really never happen. This NCAA Tournament has been insane with unbelievable upsets and different things like that.

R.J. Davis led the way for North Carolina with a career-high of 30 points, that right there gave the biggest jolt of energy for that team. Brady Manek also had a big game, before getting ejected, but Baylor found a way to return.

We knew Baylor would but for North Carolina to blow a 25-point lead is completely unfathomable. Then you add on top of all this Brady Manek being ejected mid-way of the second half due to a flagrant foul.

But fear not as the momentum of North Carolina halted the pending doom of Baylor

Despite blowing a 25-point lead, the Tar Heels were able to do the unthinkable. They won and they did it dramatically within the final minutes of regulation and over the course of overtime. The game kept getting very close and it seemed like the Bears were finding a way to win this thing and go to the next round with a close victory under their belt.

The final minutes of regulation was all dominance from Baylor, Baylor made sure to keep this thing as competitively close as humanly possible. Akinjo hit two clutch threes, one to tie it up at 80-apiece and one to bring them within three with 1:47 to go in regulation.

The Manek ejection proved to be costly as Baylor went on to score eleven straight points. Turnovers and sloppy plays kept mounting up for North Carolina, while Baylor was doing the impossible (at the time) and completing the comeback.

With only four or so seconds remaining in the game, Baylor was able to stop the Tar Heels from hitting the game-winner. Davis’ three-point shot was no good as it hit front of the basket.

Overtime

Overtime was the Tar Heel Show as they won 13-6 just in extended time. It was tied for a brief moment for majority of OT it was North Carolina sealing the deal on something that should have been done since the beginning of the second. However, when obstacles get in your way then detours need to be made.

North Carolina zoned-in and made sure to pick up the victory, the upset. Bacot, Manek, and Davis all contributed to the Tar Heels winning and securing the Sweet 16 Berth.

Their next opponent will either be Saint Mary’s or UCLA.
