Walt Disney Resort hosting the NBA season?

Walt Disney World Resort in Florida shooting fireworks with crowd and castles

Last week the NBA broke news that they’ll be able to reopen some of their training facilities down in Georgia and Texas in the near future. Now there is a new rumor that when the relaunch does happen, whenever that may be, there has been the looming question. Will The Walt Disney Resort hosting the NBA season? Short answer, yes and no. I believe Walt Disney Resort is hosting the NBA season, but is that the only option?

Now, let me remind you that it is one of the many options Commissioner Adam Silver and the rest of the NBA were thinking and talking about. One of the many reasons why these rumors were spreading is because, like other leagues, they are trying to have their players play in empty areas and being isolated from everyone else.

I believe that by having it at the Walt Disney Resort the players will be isolated in their own rooms, no one will have to travel far, and no one will come in contact with fans and other people that might be down in Florida.

A former Disney employee told Yahoo Sports that the company down in Florida has 12 kept on site basketball courts ready for the use of anyone. The former employee also stated that there will be tons of room for staff, players, camera-crew, and officials.

The NBA shut its league down back in March 11th due to Rudy Gobert having the Coronavirus, this was at the Jazz-OKC game when fans were piling in. The NBA hasn’t been activated for a while but has been doing interactives like tournaments, drills people can do at home, video games with NBA Stars, and much more.

G-League's season to begin next month in the Bubble!

G-League’s season to begin next month in the Bubble!

G-League’s season to begin next month in the Bubble! It is official as a reboot of the NBA Bubble featuring Walt Disney’s resort in Orlando will happen.

As stated previously, in our last article: “A return to Disney World?“, this will be a modified season with limited games and teams. Teams were given a choice to either opt-in or opt-out, several of them choose to opt-out.

There will be 17 G-League teams taking part in this condensed season as the top 8 teams will advance to a single-elimination playoff. Now, even though, several teams are opting-out they can still assign roster players and two-way players as normal.

Teams not playing will be the Wizards, Hawks, Pistons, Celtics, Suns, Heat, Lakers, Kings, Mavericks, Bulls, and Bucks. These will be their G-League teams, not their NBA Teams, to note.

A return to Disney World?

A return to Disney World?

A return to Disney World? It is looking like it as the NBA is finalizing a return to the NBA Bubble; but it isn’t for who you think it is for.

The NBA is actually doing this for their G-League, yep you read that correctly. After a successful stint with the NBA being their for the last NBA Season; they are hoping to recreate that success with their G-League teams now.

Orlando’s Disney Campus will be in use prior to February 8th, the tip-off for their season. This means that on January 19th we will be seeing players arriving at their home markets for physicals, and January 19th for their arrival in Orlando.

What are the details heading into this “new” season?

Reports are coming out that the season will be 12 to 15 games and that the cost for all this would be around 400,000 to $500,000 dollars. Now, there are some complications.

What do I mean by that? I mean that all the teams will not be showing up to the NBA Bubble, that they are opting out for this season.

Here is the list:

Atlanta (College Park Skyhawks), Boston (Maine Red Claws), Chicago (Windy City Bulls), Dallas (Texas Legends), Detroit (Grand Rapids Drive), Los Angeles Lakers (South Bay Lakers), Miami (Sioux Falls Skyforce), Milwaukee (Wisconsin Herd), Phoenix (Northern Arizona Suns), Sacramento (Stockton Kings) and Washington (Capital City Go-Go; will utilize Erie).

Luka Doncic injured with a sprained ankle!

Luka Doncic injured with a sprained ankle!

Luka Doncic injured with a sprained ankle! We saw last night that Maverick’s own Luka Doncic went down with an injury, that injury? The injury would be that he sprained his left ankle.

Doncic left in the fourth quarter during the Mass-Clips game; the final total of that game resulted in the Mavericks losing 130-122 to the Clippers. Now, it did appear that Doncic was going to be okay when he returned. Sadly, he was exited for good as he was limping/hobbling on the court. The team, shortly afterwards, announced he wouldn’t be coming back.

This is what Luka Doncic said on the injury he suffered:

“It’s not that bad,” said Doncic, who missed a total of 11 games this season due to twice spraining his right ankle. “Honestly, I had luck it’s my left ankle. It’s not my right. It’s a little sprained. We’ll know more tomorrow.”

His injury happened when he was guarding Kawhi Leonard, he rolled his ankle when Leonard was driving to the basket. He immediately grabbed his left ankle, and he was helped off the court. This happened when it had 3:58 remaining in the third quarter.

This is what Rick Carlisle had to say about next game and if Luka will be there:

“The game is early Sunday, which doesn’t help things, but we’ll see,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. “We’ve got every advanced treatment modality that you can have, as every team here does. We’ll see how this responds in the next 36 hours.”
